K.I.T.T. 3000 /Knight RiderThis 2008 Mustang was the primary car in the 2008 KnightRider movie. It is called the “Hero” carand was used for almost all of the filming of the movie. The second car was called the “Attack” carwhich featured different grill and spoiler and thus had much more modifiedlook. In reality this car was the star of the movie. It is true one-of-one car. This car was specially built by Ford to star in the made forTV movie that brought back the K.I.T.T. car. The car was supposed to lookexactly like the upcoming Shelby Gt500KR which was not ready for market. ThusFord took 2008 GT Mustang and turned it into the KR (Knight Rider versus Kingof the Road). Since the car was going tobe used for stunts, it featured Ford Racing Whipple supercharger bolted tothe 4.6 motor producing over 500 HP. The car also has an automatic transmissionthat is preferred for stunts and also actors concentrating on their lines. Other added parts are Ford Racing handlingpackage, high-flow Ford Racing X-pipe with Ford Racing muffler, piston Brembobrakes, genuine Shelby GT500 fiberglass hood and spoiler, 20” Shelby wheels,and most importantly, the K.I.T.T sweeping red lights inserted in the hoodscoop. This was all done by the Ford Team specifically for the movie. Theinterior was completely modified with custom racing seats, Moma steering wheel,deleted radio and temperature controls (to fit in the computer screen), specialmolded back seats, and center consul that hid the automatic shifter. Othercool features of this car are that the trunk was signed by all of the castmembers and stunt drivers and the car plays the Knight Rider theme song when itis started. There is CD player in the trunk. There is no rear seat and theautomatic shifter can be concealed as it was in the movie to make the car looklike it drove on it’s own.After the movie was completed, this car was retired andreplaced by new “sluggish” fleet of Mustangs for the first year of the KnightRider series. These cars had V6’s in them with only body modifications to matchthe look of the movie car. The interiors were also different and much more“stock”. Both this car and the “Attack” car were sold at auction for theFord’s Salute to Charity at the Barrett Jackson Palm Beach Auction in 2008.They were then broken apart at another Barrett Jackson auction in Reno in 2015.This car is very unique and turns heads wherever it goes. Itis super fast, handles great, and sounds fast and loud. The car has less than1,000 miles on it on top of all the great modifications.The car is also smogged and California legal. invite inspections or test rides of the car.
